Beijing Opera is widely regarded as one of China's cultural treasures. It is also the most representative and influential of all operas in China.
There are four roles to be played in a Beijing Opera: Sheng (male role), Dan (female role), Jing (Painted Face) and Chou (clown role).
Opera actors have to train for 4 skills, which are singing, recitative, acting and acrobatic fighting for each role. Yu Rong has been a Dan actress for the past 20 years.
Tonight, as usual, she practises her acting in full makeup backstage.
